About this study guide

Spanish is spoken across Europe and the Americas, and a steady start makes every later step easier. This study guide begins with the sounds of the language, explaining how vowels and stressed syllables work so that written words become easy to say aloud. From there it moves to greetings, numbers, days of the week, family words and the vocabulary you need for shopping, travel and eating out.

Grammar is introduced in small, manageable pieces. You will read about gender and articles, regular verbs in the present tense, the difference between ser and estar, and how to form questions and negatives. Each point comes with short example sentences you can copy, adapt and practise writing on your own.

The material is arranged in four levels, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Expert, so you can move forward only when you feel ready.
Each level is unlocked separately

01
Level 1

Beginner

165 credits

What this level includes
  • Covered in this level

Covers the Spanish alphabet and vowel sounds, where stress falls in a word, greetings and introductions, numbers, days and months, and family vocabulary. Grammar starts with gender and articles, regular -ar, -er and -ir verbs, and the present tense of ser and estar.

  • Suited to

This level suits readers meeting Spanish for the first time, perhaps before a trip or simply out of curiosity. It assumes no prior knowledge and moves at a calm pace, so anyone wanting a clear, unhurried start will find it a comfortable place to begin.

  • What you will be able to apply

You will be able to introduce yourself, give your age and nationality, count, and describe your home and family in short Spanish sentences. You should also feel ready to read simple notices and menus and to choose correctly between ser and estar in everyday statements.

02
Level 2

Intermediate

365 credits

What this level includes
  • Covered in this level

This stage introduces the preterite and imperfect and explains when each is used, along with the near future with ir a, reflexive verbs, direct and indirect object pronouns, and comparisons. Vocabulary widens to travel, health, work and restaurants, with model dialogues showing the grammar in context.

  • Suited to

Aimed at readers who already handle greetings and the present tense but stall when a conversation turns to yesterday or next week. If you want to talk about past and future and cope with ordinary situations such as travel or shopping, this stage is the natural next step.

  • What you will be able to apply

After this level you should be able to recount a weekend or a holiday, make plans, ask for directions and explain a simple problem at a hotel or pharmacy. You will also be able to read short articles and emails in Spanish with growing ease.

03
Level 3

Advanced

665 credits

What this level includes
  • Covered in this level

The material focuses on the present and imperfect subjunctive after expressions of wish, doubt and emotion, conditional sentences, the future and conditional perfect, and relative clauses with que, quien and cuyo. It also compares por and para in detail and looks at connectors that give longer texts a smooth structure.

  • Suited to

Designed for readers who can already get by in Spanish yet want greater precision. It suits those who read news or novels with some effort, notice gaps in their accuracy and wish to express opinions, doubts and hypotheses the way native speakers do.

  • What you will be able to apply

You will be able to argue a point, hedge an opinion and describe hypothetical situations in well-built Spanish paragraphs. You should feel ready to write formal emails, summarise articles and understand most of what you read on familiar topics without constantly reaching for a dictionary.

04
Level 4

Expert

965 credits

What this level includes
  • Covered in this level

Covers idiomatic expressions and set phrases, shifts in register between formal and colloquial Spanish, regional differences across Spain and Latin America, the finer uses of the subjunctive in complex sentences, and stylistic devices found in essays and fiction. Passages from varied genres show these features at work.

  • Suited to

For confident users of Spanish who want to refine rather than simply expand. This level suits readers who enjoy literature, work with Spanish texts or want their writing and speech to sound natural, varied and appropriate to every setting, from casual chat to formal correspondence.

  • What you will be able to apply

You should feel ready to adapt your Spanish to the audience in front of you, choosing idioms and tone with care. You will be able to read demanding texts closely, notice regional and stylistic nuance, and write polished pieces that reflect a personal voice in the language.
