About this study guide

Thai is a tonal language, which means the same syllable can carry different meanings depending on pitch. This material describes each of the five tones in written form, with comparisons to familiar sounds, and shows how tone marks and consonant groups work together in the Thai script.

Alongside the script, you will learn practical vocabulary for greetings, ordering food, shopping, asking for directions and talking about time. The polite particles khrap and kha are explained early, as are basic sentence patterns, questions and negatives. Every word and phrase appears in Thai script and romanised form so you can study comfortably from the start.

The guide is divided into four levels, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Expert, allowing you to build a solid foundation before moving on to longer phrases and reading practice.
