About this study guide

For many learners, the Cyrillic alphabet is the first hurdle, so this guide spends time on it. Each letter is presented with its sound, a familiar comparison where possible and example words, until reading Ukrainian script becomes routine rather than a puzzle. Letters unique to Ukrainian, such as ї, є and ґ, receive particular attention.

Once reading feels comfortable, the material turns to grammar and vocabulary in context. Chapters cover introductions, family, food, the city, time and weather, adding noun cases, verb aspect and the past tense gradually. Example dialogues show natural word order and polite forms.

Practical chapters cover shopping, travel, health, time and weather, along with frequent mistakes in case endings after numbers and prepositions.

    Choose this level if Cyrillic now feels familiar and you know basic Ukrainian vocabulary and the present tense. It suits readers who want to communicate in real situations, write short messages and begin making sense of the case system that shapes every sentence.

    By the end of this level, you should be able to talk about past and future plans, choose the right aspect in common verbs, and handle everyday tasks such as buying tickets or describing symptoms. Short Ukrainian texts and messages will become much easier to follow.

    This level is meant for readers who already manage everyday Ukrainian and want accuracy across all cases and more natural expression. It suits people reading Ukrainian news, working with Ukrainian-speaking colleagues or wanting to discuss opinions and ideas in greater depth.
